Collegats is a local development project started in 2012 and focused on the surroundings of Collegats-Queralt Area of Natural Interest with the aim of boosting the use of natural resources and ecotourism and the creation of local employment in these areas. As of 2016, work begins jointly with the Boumort National Hunting Reserve to expand the scope of the project to that established by the Natura 2000 Network “Serra de Boumort-Collegats”. The City Council, thanks to the advice of DCB Tourism and Local Development, has published the catalog, WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN COLLEGATS-BOUMORT, with 54 tourist proposals from companies and entities, classified into six sections: observe and enjoy, enter on foot, pedal and run, sail and get wet, purb the mountains and traditions, culture and festivals. You can download the catalog at the bottom of this page.
Two SELF-GUIDED ITINERARIES have also been launched through the Natural Local mobile application: “Congost de Collegats” and “Route to Sant Miquel del Pui”. http://www.naturallocal.net/municipi/itineraris/la-pobla-de-segur/129#ruta
THE MASSÍS OF COLLEGATS
The Massís de Collegats is a natural area with a surface area of 13,300 hectares made up of the Montsor, Rocs de Queralt, Peracalç, Sant Aventí, Llania, Roc de Santa, Baiarri, Cuberes, Solduga, Buseu, Baén and Pujal mountain ranges, the Noguera rivers Pallaresa (Collegats gorge) and Flamisell (Erinyà gorge) the Montcortés pond and the end of the Sant Antoni reservoir.
It is located in the heart of the interior Pre-Pyrenees, between both Pallars, in the municipalities of Pobla de Segur, Conca de Dalt, Senterada and Baix Pallars. To the north it borders the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. Its important natural and geologicl heritage makes it accumulate numerous protection figures:
- Partial Nature Reserve: of 28 hectares that follows a 5 km stretch of the Noguera Pallaresa course, created in 1987 to protect this river course and one of the few otter populations that existed at that time in Catalonia.
- PEIN: 7,699 hectares in four areas of Natural Interest (PEIN): Collegats-Queralt (2,342 ha), Sierra de Boumort (3,217 ha), Montcortès tocacconist (44 ha) and Alt Pirineu (2,096 ha).
- The spaces of the PEIN are included within the Natura 2000 Network and catalogued as a Site of Community Interest (LIC) and a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA).
- Six spaces catalogued in the Inventory of Spaces of Geological Interest of Catalonia: three geo zones (Collegats Gorge – 597 ha-, Salt -117 ha-) and four geo topos within the geo zones.
- A space catalogued in the Inventory of Wetlands of Catalonia: The Montcortés pond.
- It has 3,296 ha classified as preventive protection land, and 8,432 ha of land of natural value and connection by the Alt Pirineu i Aran Partial Territorial Plan.
It is one of the greatest exponents of bio and geo diversity in Pallars and one of the best hotspots in Catalonia, places where you can observe a great diversity of fauna, flora and geology in a vey well preserved natural environment. Its location in the interior western Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, between the axial Pyrenees and the exterior Pre-Pyrenees and the Plana de Lleida, give it a transition character between two large climatic areas and relief forms.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
In 2012, the Pobla de Segur City Council and the Pallars Jussà Biological Station (EBPJ) signed a custody agreement to boost the management of the Rocs de Queralt forests, with an area of ha. As a result of this agreement, and another signed with an adjacent private estate, since then a series of actions have been carried out to revitalize the space:
- Monitoring of wildlife in space, by the EBPJ
- Identification of the basic network of bridle paths around Collegats
- In 2013, recovery of 8km of old bridle paths by the City Council to the Rocs de Queralt and Emprius forests, thanks to the subsidy received for actions in protected natural areas.
- In 2014, publication by the City Council of a hiking map to publicize the network of trails and production of two promotional videos. In both cases with the support of the Ilerdens Studies Institute of the Diputació de Lleida.
- In 2015, thanks to a grant from the General Directorate for the Natural Environment for actions in historic natural spaces: the path from Masia de Queralt to the monastery of St. Pere de les Maleses and the Montsor path through the Vallcarca ravine. Continuity signage was also made for the open trails in the 1st and 2st phase and computerized and impretative signage was installed.
- In 2016, thanks to the advice of CB Tourism and Local Development, the City Council has published the catalogue WHAT YOU CAN LIVE IN COLLEGATS-BOUMORT, with 54 tourist proposals from companies and entities, classified into six sections, observe and enjoy, enter on foot, pedal and run, sail and get wet, try the mountains and traditions, culture and festivals. You can download the catalogue at the bottom of this page. In addition, 33 companies in the tourism sector have been advised on the creation and presentation of products. Two self-guided itineraries have also been launched through the Natura Local mobile application: http://www.naturalocal.net/municipi/itineraris/la-pobla-de-segur/129#ruta
